As a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) ambassador, I strive to openly share the story of my own personal mental health journey to inspire and uplift others. June 15th, 2022 I had the honor of performing virtually for NAMI’s annual NAMIcon. My first song I chose, “Deere John,” is a new one I wrote about my childhood of growing up on a farm in Canada and how the backroads made me into the person I am today.
The second song I sang was called "Warrior." The song is inspired and written for anyone who has been bullied or is struggling with something in their life. This is about your own battle, and I want to uplift people, give them hope, and let them know that they are not alone. Throughout my music, I strive to express an authentic message of perseverance, humility, courage, and resilience. I feel particularly empowered to share my experiences of balancing life as a mother and wife with my music career. That led me to choose my song '93 as a representation of going back to the good old days. “Even if it’s one person who hears a song I wrote and that song helps them through a tough day, then I am grateful. I write songs to inspire, uplift & hopefully make a difference in some way. The song is for that listener”.
